The spread so lets say you have bids lined up and ask's lined up, and in the centre , that's when stock or crypto trades get executed. Example- think of it like a house for sale. If a seller ask's 500,000.00 for his/her house and a buyer puts an offer of 450,000.00 the 500,000.00 is the ask and the 450,000.00 is the bid and the 50,000.00 between the 2 is the spread.
